THE ISSUES
our opposition is currently asking for you to approve another tax-increase on yourself (Measure-Q); yet for many years now, the rate of truancies in our District have drastically skyrocketed and our student enrollment and graduation rates have steeply declined past unacceptable levels. most of OUR NEIGHBORING-city school DISTRICTS ARE OUT-PERFORMING US, AND OUR STUDENT'S MORALE, PHYSICAL & mental HEALTH, AND CAREER-PROSPECTS ARE BEING NEGLECTED.
what good is FURTHER raising TAXes OUR FAMILIES for construction projects that will beautify our schools, if p.u.s.d. continues failing to enthuse, protect and retain so many of our students?
It’s time we have look in the mirror and realize that full responsibility falls on the elected officials deciding on these matters, hence on us. our community hires these people with our vote but often fail to remain vigilant of those we’ve entrusted with the care of our most sacred—our children.
Bottom line is, that P.U.S.D. is not progressing. i believe that If this crisis is ever going to be solved, before we start getting surgical with resolving this wound we must start by stopping the bleed of student outpour; this begins with electing people who are committed to providing special care services for of our current students rather than cutting them as p.u.s.d. is currently doing.
it is vital to our public education system that we communicate with actions above all; our current students (and parents) need to see how much they truly matter, how important they are now, and what great significance their lives in our community already hold.
so let's initiate the process of re-imagining a progressive P.U.S.D. educational system; one that has the majority of our student youth population healthy and actually excited to go to school each day, to realize whatever true potential lies within their hearts; students and parents must be reassured that an education from p.u.s.d. won't be a waste of time upon graduation.
If we wouldn’t allow this kind of neglect to continue with our personal finances, why would we allow this with taxes going to our students, when its our children’s future success that is on the line?
This is why your vote in this local election is so important, the results will be seen and felt at home almost immediately, and I intend to improve our PUSD from the old way.
I bring NO conflicts of interest. I don't accept corporate donations. I'm not friends of the local-polluters and Trades-unions that have been financing our politicians campaigns for construction contracts. I am beholden only to the people.
I respectfully ask for your vote of faith, and I promise to accept it with great honor and commitment to the duties of improving and safeguarding our PUSD institutions and students; and to remain your loyal, humble, and uncorrupted public servant.
Thank you in advance.
sincerely,
Alfredo Bañuelos
