We believe in action; actions that reflect our belief that every student has the potential to succeed in life, provided that parents, teachers and PUSD are willing to collaborate to ensure all students' basic individual needs are being met. We believe that an educational system that limits educational resources on the basis of property values is a deeply flawed and inherently unjust system. Our action commitment with the community intends to form and be part of the solution. We strive to create an inclusive, healthy and supportive learning environment that equips and empowers all students to visualize their full potential and achieve their short and long term goals. We believe our students (and parents) need to know they can actually rely on us and that PUSD schools are not a waste of time; only then will we finally be able to turn the current trend steep decline in graduation and enrollment rates; when PUSD's actions show parents and students that our education systems can truly facilitate a successful life anywhere in the world.
Our proposition begins with raising our standards for the what we consider to be the fundamental basic safety ,health, and environmental protections. Our students currently lack basic security measures; throughout this campaign, I've seen students almost be hit by cars as their making their way to enter the school; this type of neglect is unacceptable. We believe in instituting systems of specialized medical care and student support; such as mental and neuro-divergent health specialists. We believe that a, more comprehensive and well-rounded, Holistic Curriculum holds the potential to reignite the love for education and self-development that our youth is yearning for. We're offering a variety of programs designed for students to explore and experiment with their own unique interests and abilities; from wide options in hands-on vocational training to early college-prep courses and life planning counseling. Our programs are designed to provide students with high self-esteem, a leadership mindset, develop skills out of their personal talents and root them in the general knowledge they need to succeed in any field after graduation. The main goal is raise healthy, purpose-driven students with a sense of direction for their lives after graduation; student generations that'll be free from the lure of the streets, and that will soon come back to Paramount and give back to the new generations.
We believe in our teachers and want to ensure them our full support. We believe that our teachers must be listened to and provided with all the necessary tools and resources they need in order to best assist our students at all times. We understand most teachers are passionate about teaching and are always looking for new and innovative ways to help students learn; if were going to demand a high standard of education, we need our teacher support to reflect the same high standards. Our teacher's input is vital to this project and systemic challenges outside of the classroom mustn't be ignored and must be addressed. Our teachers must be dedicated and committed to helping students achieve our educational goals, transmitting a love of knowledge and learning and maintaining a good relationship with parents.
John Dewey
Dear neighbor,
My name is Alfredo Bañuelos and if you don’t already know me, I’d like to introduce myself and share a little bit about me and my story. I have been raised in Paramount for most of my life. I’m the first-born son of a working-class immigrant family. As a first-generation college graduate, I genuinely understand the hurdles of pursuing an education and having to find my place in society with little guidance. Fortunately, I have been able to achieve some formal higher-education, from both Cerritos College (in Business Administration) and from California State University—Long beach (in Philosophy); yet, its been in spite of my K-12 education and not because of it that I advanced.
I share in the experience of so many Southeast Los Angeles students who grew up having to reach adulthood unsure about what to do next, wasting time having to navigate through the system practically alone and with scarce resources. Through trial and error, I’ve now come a long way from where I started, and it is because of that turbulent journey that I seek to contribute back to my community and afford our current students and future generations many of the timesaving and door-opening opportunities that I wish had been extended to me. A reform in the way we support our teachers and students will go a long way to ensuring our students can transition into adulthood with healthy bodies, mindsets and plans for their future.
My mission is to help improve our community’s conditions and that foundationally take on an educational emphasis. This candidacy is continuation of the commitment I have demonstrated in previous official positions, and political actions and initiatives that I’ve participated in over the last 18 years; from 2006, when I first served in Student government and participated in my first mass protest against the threat of racially discriminatory immigration laws, and since then, the actions and involvement experiences have been countless and the community lessons unmeasurable. Officially, I have formally served as the Chairperson/President of the Public Works Commission for the City of Paramount, and I’m a former Paramount City Council and Compton College Board of Trustees candidate. I’m currently Director to an educational nonprofit organization and I am also a long-time practicing real estate Consultant. These experiences, over the last 20 years, afford me a background expertise and ability that enables me to advocate for the importance of a people-centered local government policy, and to highlight the immense role it plays in the accessibility and safety of the hard-working families of our PUSD community.
We all come from different backgrounds and grew-up having different needs but that doesn’t mean our system can’t function for all. I strongly believe that none of us should have ever been competitively disadvantaged in education, compared to our neighboring school-districts peers, simply because of the zip-code that we lived in and we'll be working to change that as well.
In this November, 2024 election I am your Paramount Unified School District candidate for Area-3, and I humbly ask for your vote and for the opportunity to serve you, your family and our community as your loyal public servant, tasked with ensuring the safety, well-being and education of your children; and to hold our local publicly funded school system (PUSD) accountable and transparent to you AT ALL TIMES. Thank you in advance.
Our goal is to win, and that requires making sure our message spreads wide amongst all voters. We hate to ask but please consider making a donation. Anything helps.
